Wood-fired Hot Tubs
When you need some time out, immerse yourself in one of our wood-fired hot tubs, set in a clearing amidst the trees. Taking the Japanese concept of ‘forest bathing’ to the next level, the warm waters help to soothe the body while the leafy surroundings help to calm the soul.

Exploring North Devon
-
Surfing
With so many of North Devon’s prime surfing spots within easy reach, beginners and experts alike will find suitably enjoyable waves. Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton, Woolacombe and Westward Ho are all within half an hour’s drive, with numerous local surf schools providing instruction and equipment. Some beaches have lifeguards, showers and cafes.
-
Cycling
For easy, traffic-free cycling, the Tarka Cycle Trail makes a great day out, with 32 miles of flat, surfaced trail running alongside the estuary and through wooded valleys. The disused railway line has plenty of picnic spots and cafes along the way for a spot of refreshment. For something a bit more challenging, the steep climb to Exmoor culminates in spectacular panoramic views.
-
The Tarka Trail
Inspired by the route travelled by Tarka the Otter, the Tarka Trail loops 180 miles around North Devon, with a mix of walking and cycle paths. Traversing unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and beautiful beaches, the route serves as a handy summary for things to see and do in the local area. Part of the walking route runs along the Venn Stream at Birchwood.

Exmoor & Dartmoor
The National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor meld romantic wilderness with a vast array of outdoor activities across their moorlands, valleys and forests. Known for their iconic wild ponies, red deer, elusive otters and dramatic scenery, they are also great for fossil hunting on the coast, and stargazing, with Exmoor being recognised as the first Dark Sky Reserve in Europe. Wimbleball Lake offers watersports, archery, climbing and a high ropes course. Or simply head for out for a walk, cycle or ride in the fresh air.
-
Water Activities
Whether heading towards the local rivers, lakes or the sea, there’s enough in the vicinity to keep even the most ardent water lover happy. Known for its long sandy beaches, the coastline is popular for swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing, plus sand buggying and kitesurfing at Westward Ho. Wimbleball Lake has flat water for canoeing, whilst anglers will find coarse, fresh and saltwater opportunities aplenty.
-
Horseriding
Exmoor has over 400 miles of well-maintained bridleways, with various stables catering to novices, experienced riders and family groups. Woolacombe and Croyde also have stables near the beach, with options to hack through the sand dunes, along the beach or across the countryside.
-
Eat & Drink
Devon is, of course, famous for its cream teas and ice cream. Marshford Organic Foods has its own nursery and farm shop, selling products from around North Devon and beyond. For eating out, our favourite local establishments include The Chichester Arms in Bishop’s Tawton, which serves hearty pub food; The Farmers Arms in Woolsery, with both fine dining and fish & chips; and The Hunter’s Inn by the National Trust on Exmoor.

Festival Fun
Pigstock kicks off the summer with music and family fun, billing itself as North Devon’s friendliest festival. Later on, the three-day Gold Coast Ocean Fest in Croyde has a packed programme, with an arena full of child-friendly activities, live music and competitive sports including beach volleyball, paddle racing and open water swimming.
